Comments are due by Aug. 20 in the FCC’s effort to clear out old proceedings.
From time to time, the Consumer & Governmental Affairs Bureau reviews dormant proceedings and after consulting with various bureaus, OCG compiles a list of those that could potentially be terminated.
OCG recently identified some 950 proceedings that could be cleared from the commission’s decks. These are issues not targeted for further action and/or those for which no paperwork has been filed in years.
To the extent that any of these proceedings include a petition addressing the merits or other pending pleadings, unless someone files a response to the new notice, the commission will assume it’s okay to close that particular proceeding. Those who don’t agree with a decision to terminate can appeal.
Federal Register publication has triggered comment dates. Reply comments to CG Docket 14-97 are due by Sept. 4.
