FCC Upholds LPFM License in N.C.

The FCC has upheld a previous ruling in a contested LPFM case, handing a victory to Montmorenci United Methodist Church.

The FCC has upheld a previous ruling in a contested LPFM case, handing a victory to Montmorenci United Methodist Church.

The case involves a station in Candler, N.C. The FCC in 2005 granted Montmorenci’s application and denied one from Mount Pisgah Adventist Educational Media, which had contested MUMC’s application on various grounds. The challenger alleged that MUMC is not an incorporated, not-for-profit local entity and that through its relationship to the broader United Methodist Church, it has attributable interests in at least one LPFM station, as well as in other full-service stations.

The FCC had rejected those arguments; the commission now has denied the subsequent petition, saying the protest failed to show errors or omissions in the original decision.
