CHOI(FM) will appeal to the Supreme Court of Canada a court ruling upholding its license revocation. Owner Patrice Demers, president of Genex Communications, told the Toronto Globe and Mail he would fight to protect his business and right to free speech.
The Canadian equivalent of the FCC decided to revoke CHOI’s license in 2004 for broadcast indecency violations. In a ruling Thursday, the Federal Court of Appeal issued what the Globe and Mail is calling a “scathing” decision against the station and a former jock “whose vulgar attacks and personal attacks prompted the federal regulator to close down the station.”
The station has 20 days to get a license extension to remain on the air, according to the account.
