The Federal Emergency Management Agency has issued a notice asking stations to suspend EAS tests until further notice. The FCC agreed to the request. FEMA cited three reasons for the test suspension: The public may misinterpret the EAS test for a real event, emotions are running high and the government would like to provide a calming influence, and should the EAS need to be activated at any level, the channels of communication need to be available to carry emergency traffic.
The EAS is working should the President need it, said a federal government source.
Stations are asked to not issue Required Weekly Tests until further notice.
