Fiat to Offer Its First HD Radio

The 2016 500X will be at dealers in the first half of next year

When GM dropped HD Radio from some models earlier this year, it drew renewed attention to which vehicles have it and which do not.

Now comes an announcement that Fiat will offer its first HD Radio-equipped vehicle next year.

HD Radio capability will be included in the 2016 Fiat 500X, which will be at dealers in the first half of 2015. The announcement means all Chrysler Group brands now offer HD Radio tuners, as standard equipment or as an option.

Dodge, Jeep, Chrysler and Ram brands offer HD Radio; iBiquity Digital COO Jeff Jury says Fiat is the final Chrysler Group brand to do so.

The Fiat 500X features Uconnect’s hands-free communication, entertainment and navigation. The Uconnect 5.0 system, standard on the Easy and Trekking models, features a 5-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth hands-free calling, voice-command control of AM/FM radio and streaming audio, and a one-year subscription to SiriusXM Radio.

HD Radio is added in the Uconnect 6.5 system, which is standard on the Lounge and Trekking Plus models and available on Easy and Trekking models. Uconnect 6.5 also adds a 6.5-inch touchscreen, GPS navigation and a five-year subscription for both SiriusXM Travel Link and SiriusXM Traffic.

Drivers have no shortage of audio options in these models. Those who buy a five-year subscription to Uconnect Access Via Mobile can connect and control their Pandora, iHeartRadio, Slacker Radio or Aha Radio accounts using the Uconnect system.
