A proposed fine of $21,500 for Radio One’s WBOT(FM) was reduced to $8,000.
The FCC issued the original fine because it said the station in Brockton, Mass., did not have a working EAS unit, establish a local or toll-free telephone number in the community of license, establish monitoring procedures to determine compliance regarding operating power, or maintain a station log or public inspection file.
The station argued that its past compliance record should warrant an admonishment, instead of a fine.
The FCC eliminated $10,000 for failing to maintain a public inspection file based on new evidence; it also reduced the remaining $9,200 to $8,000 based on Radio One’s history of compliance.
