Five Years for Radio Free Afghanistan

Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty noted the fifth anniversary of Radio Free Afghanistan, its Dari and Pashto language service.

Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty noted the fifth anniversary of Radio Free Afghanistan, its Dari and Pashto language service.

It broadcasts 12 hours daily, and RFE/RL says the service has an audience of nearly 60 percent of the adult population in that country. It quotes an Intermedia study indicating that Radio Free Afghanistan is regarded as the “most trustworthy and reliable” medium there.

As an example of its influence, the organization cited a call from a listener in western Afghanistan, who said he had been offered $10,000 to be a suicide bomber and had planned to blow himself up but changed his mind after listening to a special program about suicide bombers.

Programs are produced in its Kabul Bureau and RFE/RL headquarters in Prague, Czech Republic.
