Digital Radio Express believes a new alliance with a multibillion-dollar Chinese consumer electronics manufacturer will help establish its FMeXtra system as an important digital radio player in the global market.
DRE, based in Silicon Valley, and TCL announced the alliance and a product development and cooperation agreement using FMeXtra technology.
The alliance covers design, development, manufacture and marketing of consumer digital appliances. “In addition, TCL with DRE’s support will initiate a plan to create a new era of business using the new digital wireless broadcast technology FMeXtra for transmitting data, video and audio for information application systems and products,” they stated.
TCL, active in television and mobile phones among other businesses, will implement FMeXtra in several Chinese radio stations to demonstrate and test capabilities of the FMeXtra system.
They said the first products from the cooperative agreement are expected by mid-year and will be marketed under the brands of TCL Group in the U.S. market.
DRE President Norman Miller also said the move lets TCL offer digital consumer appliance products to the Chinese market and elsewhere.
TCL has 55,000 employee and three subsidiaries.
