For Radio Sales, a Year of Recovery

Radio sales were up 6% for all of 2002 compared to the previous year, according to the RAB, which called it a “remarkable recovery.” National advertising led the way, up 13%, while local revenue, which is the bulk of the industry’s income, increased 4%.
“These growth rates represent a 98% recovery against 2000, radio’s highest growth year since 1985,” the organization said. The news was released during the RAB convention in New Orleans.
For the fourth quarter, overall sales were up 11%. For December alone, sales were up 9%. President Gary Fries said, “The outlook for 2003 is more than promising for continued acceleration and growth.”
