Forrester Research Predicts Future of Portable Devices

Cell phones are leaping into the MP3 market, MP3 players are providing video and PDAs hope to cover all media. Multitasking has become common in portable devices, and can be useful as long as the extras don’t detract from the core function of the device.
Technology research company Forrester predicts that common affinity between functions will help a device succeed. For instance, Sirius offers its S50, which combines satellite radio reception and MP3 playback.
Some devices have obstacles to overcome. Cell phones will need greater storage and PC interactivity to compete with MP3 players, the company found, and PDAs would have to give up portability to compete with the application power of a PC.
