Four New CBI Awards Announced

Awards reflect changes in student media

They didn’t tell us about “vodcasts” when we were in school.

College Broadcasters Inc. announced new categories to be included in its upcoming 2011 awards competition, reflecting the changing landscape of student media.

Awards for best podcast and best vodcast were introduced to recognize audio and video programming created for online audiences. Categories for best community involvement and best station imaging are open to both radio and television station participants.

The CBI National Student Production Awards are an annual event that salutes outstanding work by students involved in a campus media outlet or enrolled in a course. The awards are presented in 24 categories including best newscast, station promo and public service announcement. The 2010 awards saw more than 400 entries.

Finalists for the 2011 Student Production Awards will be announced in August, with awards being presented at the Fall Convention, held at the SeaWorld Renaissance Hotel in Orlando, Fla., in October.

College Broadcasters Inc. represents students involved in radio, television, webcasting and other related media ventures.

Information on category descriptions, contest rules and previous finalists and winners is available online.
