The top four highest-revenue radio stations for 2013 appeared in the same list in 2012, according to BIA/Kelsey.

Those are: WTOP(FM), Washington; KIIS(FM), Los Angeles; WHTZ(FM), New York and WCBS(AM), New York. They took in an estimated revenue of $63.5 million, $61.6 million, $51 million and $50.5 million, respectively, in 2013, according to BIA/Kelsey’s “Investing In Radio Market Report 2014,” a quarterly report published by the company.

New York’s WLTW(FM) moved up from seventh to the fifth spot, with $45 million in billings. Los Angeles station KBIG(FM) leapt from 13 in 2012 to seven, with $44.5 million in revenues. Four of the top 10 stations have an all-news format. WFAN(AM/FM) in New York at eight, with $43 million in ad sales, is the only sports/talk station in the top 10.

Number six WINS(AM), New York, $45 million; number nine KROQ(FM), Los Angeles, $42.8 million; and number 10 WBBM (AM), Chicago, $42 million, fill out the top 10.

Other than Hubbard and its WTOP, the rest of the top 10 are either Clear Channel or CBS Radio stations. Also, eight of the top 10 are in either New York or Los Angeles.

Twenty-three of the Top 25 billing stations transmit in HD Radio in addition to their analog signal.

In 2013, overall radio revenues from over-the-air were $14.3 billion, with online generating $570 million. BIA/Kelsey forecasts both sources of income to continue growing at a slight pace over the next few years, reaching $16.7 billion in 2018, on par with what over-the-air produced on its own 10 years ago.
