Fugitive Break Came From Radio Show

ABC Radio Networks said its “America’s Most Wanted” feature was directly responsible for the capture and return of a fugitive in November.
“The arrest was directly attributed to ABC Radio Networks’ syndicated feature, which is hosted by renowned crime fighter John Walsh,” it said in a press release. “Suspected of being ‘The Riverbed Rapist,’ Arnulfo Vargas was taken into custody on Nov. 17 following a manhunt that started with a tip from a relative who heard Vargas’ ‘America’s Most Wanted’ profile on ABC Radio affiliate and legendary news/talk station KGO(AM) San Francisco.”
Mexican authorities eventually picked up the fugitive and turned him over to the LAPD.
The concept for the radio program was developed by TotalMedia Communications and RLR Associates. ABC Radio began airing it in 2003.
