Elizabeth “Betsy” Gardella will be New Hampshire Public Radio’s next president and general manager. She has experience at nonprofit organizations in New York and Minnesota.
Gardella succeeds Mark Handley, who’s retiring after 15 years as president. She takes over at the nine-station network on Sept. 1.
Gardella was executive vice president and COO of WNYC, New York, where she helped lead a transition from municipal to community licensee, completed a $20-million license purchase campaign and shaped the effort to rebuild the station after its transmitting equipment was destroyed on Sept. 11, 2001. She is project director for American Public Media in Saint Paul, Minn., the program distribution arm of Minnesota Public Radio.
