GatesAir Delivers Digital Radio System to China

Flexiva transmitters part of turnkey system provided to Guangdong Broadcast Bureau

The Guangdong Broadcast Bureau, based in the Guangdong province, has received a turnkey China Digital Radio system from GatesAir.

The system is made up of four GatesAir Flexiva transmitters and supports both IP and ASI transport to move audio and data to transmitter sites across the Internet and satellite networks. It also integrates GatesAir’s hybrid crest factor reduction technology to increase power output for signal coverage optimization, says the firm.

CDR is an FM in-band, on-channel digital radio system that can deliver audio and data services, including news, traffic and other local and national information.

The initial launch will support one channel of digital program audio, explained GatesAir. Eventually, the architecture will be able to support as many as 12 channels.

With GatesAir’s Flexiva FAX20 (20kW) transmitters, which are now on the air, the CDR transmitter network will utilize 5 kW, 10 kW and 20 kW models based on regional coverage needs.

GatesAir said that it is working with the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television’s Academy of Broadcasting Science on the planning and design phases for the system.
