Genachowski Will Make Vegas Trip

Chairman to speak that Monday afternoon

When the industry’s top regulator spoke at CES this winter, he opened by saying “Where else can you find a USB stick that’s also a bottle opener? I’m not making that up.”

What might he have to say to broadcasters?

FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski has confirmed for the NAB Show. He’ll talk Monday afternoon April 16.

Association President/CEO Gordon Smith said the timing is appropriate, “with the FCC poised to tackle the incentive auction legislation and many other critical regulatory issues.”

Genachowski is one of only three sitting commissioners; the other two seats on the panel are vacant, with the administration’s nominees held up on the Hill.

In what is likely to be a preview of themes he’ll bring to Vegas, at January’s CES Genachowski used much of his presentation to talk about the commission’s broadband policies and incentive auctions.“A broad range of America’s top experts on auctions agree that it would not be wise to prejudgeor micromanage FCC auction design and band plans,” he said then.
