RAI recently commissioned Glensound Electronics to manufacturer 40 HD Voice Broadcasters’ Mobile Phone Units — 20 of the GS-MPI004HD and 20 of the GS-MPI005HD.
RAI’s radio stations needed a solution to produce high quality reports without lengthy product tuition, prearranged infrastructure and expensive connection, explained Glensound. The company says that its HD Voice Broadcasters’ Mobile Phone allows a connection of 7 kHz between compatible phones on commercial HD voice 3G networks.
The GS-MPI004HD is designed for portable use, housed in a beltpack and powered by four AA batteries. The unit also features broadcast headset connections, RF shielding and internal configuration options.
The GS-MPI005HD is a 1U 19-inch rackmount. This unit functions as the receiver for the GS-MPI004HD and can hold up to three phone modules providing the facility to connect with three different calls. It is possible to fit the unit with an N-type antenna to obtain maximum signal.
“We chose this technology because of its high audio quality and low latency and robust connectivity adopting standard mobile networks,” said Giovanni Ridolfi, head engineer for RAI radio. “Our journalists found the unit intuitive to use and handy and light to move around.”
