Globe: CHOI Sees Hope

According to a French-language report in the Toronto Globe, the staff at CHOI(FM) is “jubilant” due to what appears to be growing support among some members of the Canadian government to lessen the punishment against CHOI for broadcasting offensive programming over a period of years.
Canada’s version of the FCC decided to revoke the station’s license to take effect in August, due to what communications regulators called a pattern of programming that went beyond indecency to libel and slander.
According to the Globe, Quebec Premier Jean Charest believes the revocation decision is extreme and he has asked Heritage Minister Liza Frulla to see if there’s a way to give the station what he believes would be a more appropriate sanction.
