Golden West Likes Harris

Five new transmitters planned

Golden West Radio will install new Harris transmitters at five stations.

The broadcaster is launching stations in the Estevan and Weyburn, Saskatchewan markets, and has been approved for power increases at two existing stations, CFEQ in Winnipeg, Manitoba and CFIT in Airdrie, Alberta, according to Harris. Those four sites will install HPX20 (20 kW) models with Harris DigitCD exciters.

CKUV in Okotoks, Alberta, will install a Harris HPX30 (30 kW) model with a DigitCD to replace an older transmitter.

“The first three sites will go live by the end of May, with the remaining two (Airdrie and Weyburn) to follow in the spring of 2013,” Harris stated.

The Golden West Radio network includes 40 FM and AM radio stations in central and western Canada. The director of engineering is Laverne Siemens.
