Grassroots Radio Conference to Feature Buffalo and Barsamian

KHOI Community Radio will partner with Pacifica Radio Network to host

The 16th National Grassroots Radio Conference will be held this week at the Octagon Center for the Arts in Ames, Iowa.

From Aug. 14 to Aug. 17, Ames-based KHOI Community Radio will partner with Pacifica Radio Network to host the event, which is described as “an information exchange for community radio operators and listeners.”

GRC2014 will kick off with a cookout in front of KHOI’s station in downtown Ames. Jonathan Buffalo of the Meskwaki tribe will then lead the opening ceremonies for the conference on Friday morning.

David Barsamian, founder and director of Boulder, Colo.-based audio series “Alternative Radio,” will keynote the event on Saturday at 11 a.m. His speech is open to the public, although a donation of $10 is suggested.

The schedule also includes more than 40 workshops, training labs, a hip-hop radio summit and instructional sessions specifically geared to low-powered radio operators. More details can be found online.

Event organizers anticipate 150 attendees to congregate in Ames. Tickets for the full conference are still available on the GRC website.
