Greater Media stations are taking the next steps to include Apple iTunes tagging capability for HD-R and RDS on their stations now that the ink is dry on the agreement with Jump2Go.
Greater Media EVP/Engineering Milford Smith tells me the process is basically a software upgrade to The Radio Experience package from Broadcast Electronics.
“All of our music cuts have an internal ID on our [Selector] automation system,” said Smith, who said the service takes those IDs and adds Apple IDs, which are included via RDS and HD-R as part of the station’s transmitted signals.
Smith hopes to have the tagging capability available on 25 programming streams, mostly on Greater Media’s major-market music stations, within 60 days.
“It’s about trying to establish a good connection between the MP3 player universe and the HD Radio universe,” he said.
