National award presentations to be made next month

The SBE has announced its list of 2011 SBE National Award winners. Snagging the coveted SBE Broadcast Engineer of the Year Award is Al Grossniklaus, P.E., CBNT. He is director of engineering for WTHR(TV) in Indianapolis.

The SBE Educator of the Year is Steve Lampen, CBRE. Lampen is multimedia technology manager for cable manufacturer Belden and a contributor to Radio World along with his peregrinations as an educator and audio raconteur. He’s a familiar face at Ennes Workshops, SBE chapter meetings and NAB events and also the author of the book “The Audio-Video Cable Installer’s Pocket Guide.”

Transmitter maker Nautel will receive the SBE Technology Award for its Advanced User Interface GUI.

John Davis, CBNT, is winner for Best Technical Article for his article in Radio magazine, “Choosing a Network Switch for Audio Over IP.”

Chapter 24 in Madison, Wis., cleaned up in the chapter awards, taking Best Chapter Website, Best Regional Convention and Best Chapter Newsletter.

The SBE annual convention will take place Sept. 27–28. They are being held in conjunction with the Ohio Broadcast Engineering Conference, sponsored by the Ohio Association of Broadcasters.
