Halpern Could Be Next CPB Leader

A Republican donor to the campaigns of President Bush and several members of Congress is top in line to become the next chairman of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. Appointed to the CPB board three years ago by the president, Cheryl Halpern could succeed Kenneth Tomlinson, according to the Washington Post. Tomlinson’s second one-year term expires in September; he cannot be re-appointed.
Tomlinson has garnered ire from NPR and the Public Broadcasting Service by saying their programs lack balance.
Halpern and Tomlinson’s association goes back more than 10 years, reports the Post; both served on the board that oversees U.S.-funded international broadcasters like VOA.
