Hams to Encounter Reallocation?

76–81 GHz band being examined for repurposing by FCC

Everyone hears about TV broadcasters facing the pinch of spectrum reallocation. Now some hams might find themselves in a similar position.

The 76–81 GHz band, or part of it, is being examined by the FCC for repurposing. A section, the 77.5–78 GHz strip, is currently reserved for hams and amateur satellite communications. Automotive OEM parts maker Robert Bosch has proposed using part of it, likely the 76–77 GHz range, for vehicular radar.

The FCC has issued a request for comments. The ARRL has more on this and notes that it will file comments.
