Harman Theater Underway

Harman Theater Underway

Fans of Sidney Harman, take note: construction is under way at a new theater named for him in Washington.
The $77 million, 800-seat theatre will be home to the Shakespeare Theatre and will occupy the first 5-1/2 floors of an 11-story office tower when it opens in 2007. The new theater and the Shakespeare Theatre’s existing space nearby will constitute the Harman Center for the Arts.
Harman founded manufacturer Harman-Kardon Inc. in 1952. He is executive chairman of Harman International.
Helping fund the new arts center is $14 million from the Harman Family Foundation and a $1 million “in-kind” gift of sound equipment and consulting services from Harman Industries.
