Harris Adds Newsroom Automation Line

Harris Corp.’s Broadcast Communications Division has been named a distributor of NewsBoss, an automation product by Australian-based Desktop Technologies. The principals of Desktop Technologies are Kurt Lass and Bob Miller.
NewsBoss is a Windows-based system; the manufacturer promotes it as “the only radio-specific automation system that uses a true database for management of news data.”
Features include dynamic newscast management; automatic capture of multiple wire services; ingest of satellite feeds; audio recording and editing; a prompter for on-air presentations; and WAN and Internet connectivity.
Harris said there are 140 installed locations in the United States at present, and an equal number elsewhere.
