Harris Demos DRM Gear at IBC

Harris Broadcast demonstrated its Digital Radio Mondiale equipment at the IBC in Amsterdam. Harris introduced its Flexstar DRM exciter upgrade package. The integrated hardware/software platform is designed to be incorporated into the Harris DX and new low-power DAX AM transmitters.
The upgrade package features a DRM modulator and content server and is poised to advance the adoption of end-to-end DRM services for medium- and long-wave digital transmissions.
Harris has more than 1,200 DX and DAX medium-wave transmitters on the air. It says with the Flexstar DRM exciter upgrade package, a DX or DAX transmitter can be upgraded for DRM transmission in the field in less than an hour.
“DRM is an important digital radio format for which we are dedicating our engineering and systems support resources,” states Debra Huttenburg, vice president and general manager of Harris’ Radio Broadcast Systems business unit. “Harris has developed strategies in recent years to make our transmitters DRM-friendly. As the format takes off, we have reached the point where we can confidently supply a DRM upgrade path to both new and current customers.
