Harris Joins Digital Mobile Radio Association

Major equipment manufacturer is an early North American adopter

Broadcast equipment maker Harris has joined the Digital Mobile Radio Association, an international group of companies designing and building DMR-compatible equipment and promoting DMR standards and adoption.

Digital Mobile Radio, not to be confused with DRM (Digital Radio Mondiale), is an open-source digital radio standard focusing on mobile communications, especially commercial businesses, public safety and facility communications.

According to a release, Harris Corp. will “bring decades of mission-critical communications system and terminal expertise to the emerging DMR marketplace in North America.” Heretofore more DMR work has been done in Europe.

Steve Marschilok, president, Harris Public Safety and Professional Communications. said, “Harris will be an involved and enthusiastic member … we look forward to making a significant contribution to the DMR user community.”
