Harris’ Mendenhall Snags IEEE Siukola Award

Paper on IBOC increasing power and coverage proves popular

Harris Broadcast Communications Vice President of Transmission Research and Technology Geoff Mendenhall received the Dr. Matti S. Siukola Award at the IEEE 61st Annual Broadcast Symposium in Alexandria, Va., Oct. 21.

The award is given to the best paper from last year’s event. Mendenhall’s paper was titled “Transmission System Solutions to Increase IBOC Power and Coverage.”

The award is named for Dr. Matti S. Siukola, an RCA engineer who passed away at an IEEE event in 1980 after delivering a paper about circularly polarized television transmitting antennas.

Mendenhall also won an award for an HD Radio paper at the NAB Show in 2010. Twelve years ago he received the NAB Radio Engineering Achievement Award.
