HD Radio-delivered traffic information has advanced directly into the dashboard.
The 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander, a compact crossover, will be the first auto to have real-time traffic information delivered with HD Radio technology integrated into its navigation system as well as feature the upgraded audio and expanded content and features of digital radio technology. Mitsubishi Motors North America is the first automaker to announce the direct integration, according to iBiquity Digital.
As part of their HD Radio technology package, Mitsubishi customers will also see the song title and artist displayed on the receiver. The receiver also features iTunes Tagging, which allows listeners to store song information for later purchase and download through iTunes. In addition, the receiver features Artist Experience, in which the station audio is synched with visual content on the display.
Mitsubishi has not yet announced who is supplying the traffic content for the model, which iBiquity expects to be available in summer 2013.
The AM/FM/CD/MP3 player audio system is standard. HD Radio is standard on the mid-level Outlander SE that includes a six-inch touchscreen display audio and navigation system.
IBiquity Digital COO Jeff Jury said the Mitsubishi announcement is the first of many to come.
HD Radio traffic is also delivered to navigation device makers like Garmin and TomTom.
The 2014 Outlander also features the automakers’ Fuse Hands-Free Link System with USB that allows voice activation and control of device such as iPods and cellphones.
HD Radio is also included in the premium audio package along with the Rockford-Fosgate sound system with DTS Neural Surround.
