Hearing Slated for FCC Nominees

Baker, Clyburn would return the board to full strength

The Federal Communications Commission may soon be up to its full complement of five commissioners. The nomination hearing has been scheduled for the remaining agency nominees.

The Senate Commerce Committee has slated a hearing on July 15 for Democrat Mignon Clyburn and Republican Meredith Attwell Baker. Clyburn is a South Carolina public service commissioner and the daughter of House Majority Whip James Clyburn, D-S.C. Baker, the daughter-in-law of former Secretary of State James Baker, was acting assistant secretary of the National Telecommunications and Information Administration and former point person on the government’s digital-TV-to-analog converter-box-coupon subsidy program until this January.

Chairman Julius Genachowski began his duties last week; that included swearing-in Robert McDowell to his second term on the commission.
