House Dems Seek Media Rules Repeal

Reps. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., Maurice Hinchey, D-NY., Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, Jay Inslee, D-Wash., Peter DeFazio, D-Ore., Barbara Lee, D-Calif. and Rep. Diane Watson, D-Calif. intend to introduce legislation to undo the new FCC media ownership rules.
Led by Rep. Sanders, the House members support Sanders’ legislation to rescind the new 45% TV audience cap.
Sanders said, “This is not a partisan issue or an ideological one. You have people all over the political spectrum fighting against this FCC ruling – from consumer groups to the Catholic bishops to the NRA – because they know what a danger this new rule is. It will be very frightening when we wake up one day and find that 3 or 4 huge conglomerates control the flow of information in this country.”
The legislation to be offered early next week will rescind the FCC ruling and will restore the regulations to where they were before the June 2 commission vote.
