H2O Radio Saves Energy in the Bathroom

Water-powered receiver adds new twist for in-shower radio listening

Water-tight radios for use in showers have been around for a while, but the H2O Shower-Powered Radio from Tango Group takes things a step further by using the shower’s flow to power the receiver.

Water flows through the radio where an internal microturbine drives a generator that powers the radio. An NiMH cell in the radio allows the radio to continue to play for about five minutes after the water is turned off.

The Tango Group is headed by Managing Director Vivian Blick, a former director of the Freeplay Energy Group, which commercialized the Wind-Up Radio.
