Ibiquity Digital Corp. President/CEO Robert Struble said XM’s announcement last week that it’s choosing to use the CT-aacPlus audio codec rather than Ibiquity’s PAC is a disappointment, but would have small impact on Ibiquity’s revenue. XM did pay Ibiquity an undisclosed amount for development costs.
Sirius Satellite Radio is using version 4 of the codec, Struble said, and he and Sirius confirmed they’re happy with its performance. Version 4 is the same version of PAC Ibiquity is using in its IBOC system, said Struble.
