NPR has published its technical report about an IBOC FM booster test last December in California. NAB’s weekly TechCheck engineering newsletter summarized it for members this week.
The test was at public station KCSN at California State University, Northridge.
According to NAB’s summary, “Comparison of local mean received signal levels … shows increases of 20 to 40 dB at many locations, and more than 40 dB in some locations north of the booster. According to NPR, the audible effect on service between booster off and booster on was often the difference between no usable signal and a very listenable stereo signal.”
