IBS Distances Itself From CBI Settlement

Debate concerns streaming rates

It appears not every college broadcaster is part of the streaming rate settlement with SoundExchange.

We reported earlier this week about such a proposed deal between College Broadcasters Inc. and the streaming collection and distribution organization to leave rates as they are for five years.

Fritz Kass, chief executive officer of the nonprofit Intercollegiate Broadcasting wrote to tell Radio World many college stations are not part of that agreement.

“Every noncommercial and commercial webcaster, except for a small group of college broadcasters (CBI) that could not afford the expense of appearing before the CRB, Copyright Royalty Board, or fund any appeal necessary to the U.S. Court of Appeals (DC Circuit) has not settled, or agreed on rates and terms,” according to Kass.
