International Datacasting Corp. said it won the contract to provide a DVB-S2 broadband satellite communications system to Telesat Canada.
IDC and Efficient Channel Coding, part of Viasat, will supply a DVB-S2 based hub, terminals, installation, support services and software. The satellite system will be used by Telesat under a research project to introduce artificial intelligence to create a next-generation intelligent satellite network.
The head of IDC stated, “The use of AI for this application is innovative, takes advantage of DVB-S2 and offers a lot of potential because of its ability to deal with complex network issues.”
IDC products are used by radio and TV broadcast and other networks. Telesat Canada operates satellites for broadcast distribution and telecom services; its parent company is selling the satellite operator to an acquisition company that includes Loral Space & Communications.
