IEEE History Center — Where Do We Come From?

RW Cool Site of the Week: Electronics industry organization has key research resource

The IEEE History Center was developed in 1980 in anticipation of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the organizations itself, celebrated in 1984.

As explained, “The mission of the IEEE History Center is to preserve, research and promote the history of information and electrical technologies.”

The center, now located on the campus of Rutgers University in New Jersey, offers everything from research materials to educational opportunities (including post-doctoral research) to relevant conferences and other public activities.

The Web site for the center allows access to much of the library including older periodicals, relevant biographies, select research materials including donated papers, photographs and oral histories, historical highlights, calendars of upcoming IEEE events and conferences.

It also has information on how to donate items.
