IEEE Symposium Adds Gage and Matheny

Mid-October broadcast technology event covers radio and TV

Kevin Gage, National Association of Broadcasters executive vice president and chief technical officer, and Sam Matheny, Capitol Broadcasting’s vice president of policy and innovation, will be featured speakers at the 2012 IEEE Broadcast Symposium, Oct. 17–19, in Alexandria, Va.

Gage is scheduled to speak at the Oct. 18 noontime joint IEEE Broadcast Technology Society/Association of Federal Communications Consulting Engineers luncheon. Matheny will keynote the following day at the IEEE BTS awards luncheon event.

Gage has been with the NAB since 2011. He has been involved in television spectrum issues and radio broadcasting technology through his career. Gage previously served as head technologist at the Warner Music Group, where he helped to develop the DVD specification and production facilities at Warner Bros. Studios.

Sam Matheny

Matheny is general manager of Capitol Broadcasting’s News Over Wireless operations. He has experience in satellite communications, digital broadcasting, Web development and interactive television. Matheny is a member of the Advanced Television Systems Committee as well as the Open Mobile Video Coalition.

The 2012 IEEE Broadcast Symposium will be held at the Alexandria Westin Hotel. The three-day event includes tutorial sessions, presentation of two dozen papers covering modern broadcasting issues, panel discussions, in addition to the evening receptions for networking and socializing. The symposium is designed to facilitate the dissemination of broadcasting technology developments.
