iHeart Puts Snap Map to Work in Lorde Promotion

Geo-fencing and Bitmojis of its air talent are part of the game

iHeartMedia is conducting a clever social media contest using the new Snap Map location-sharing feature of Snapchat. It thinks it is the first brand to do something like this.

It launched the contest using Snap Map to award tickets to its “iHeartRadio Secret Sessions By AT&T featuring Lorde” event next week in Los Angeles. Each day through Sunday it’s giving away a pair of tickets for an “intimate live performance” with the popular singer/songwriter from New Zealand, at a secret location in Los Angeles. Locals enter by finding iHeartRadio on Snap Map, represented by the Bitmojis of its L.A. air personalities Tanya Rad, Freddy Rivera and Harms, who are heard on 102.7 KIIS FM and ALT 98.7.

“While in the same geo-fence as the Bitmoji, fans can take a snap and use iHeartRadio’s exclusive ‘iHeartRadio Secret Sessions By AT&T ft. Lorde’ filter,” the company explains, “then either send the snap to the iHeartRadio account with #iHeartLorde and #iHeartContest or post the photo on Twitter or Instagram with #iHeartLorde and #iHeartContest.”

iHeartRadio signed onto Snapchat’s Discover platform in 2015. A spokesman noted that the company this year announced iHeartRadio Music Awards winners through artists’ Snapchat acceptance speeches.
