IHeartRadio Goes Wearable

Streaming music and live radio service app to be on Samsung Gear 2 smartwatch

Clear Channel Media and Entertainment’s streaming music and live radio service, iHeartRadio, is entering the wearables market with a new app for the Samsung Gear 2 Smartwatch.

The integration means Samsung Gear 2 users can control their iHeartRadio smartphone app from their wrist.

The app will be compatible with about 30 devices including the Samsung Galaxy Note and S series smartphones, as well as Galaxy tablets. Using the smartwatch, users can access live and custom radio stations, save favorites, scan or skip songs as well as Thumbs Up or Thumbs Down songs.

“Wearables are an emerging access point for music fans, and Clear Channel continues to make iHeartRadio available everywhere our users are listening,” says Clear Channel President of Digital Brian Lakamp.

Samsung expects the smartwatch to be available at retail in April.

The news comes on the heels of other integrations iHeartRadio announced at CES would be available through new partnerships with Qualcomm, AT&T, GM, Jaguar Land Rover, Kia and Volvo.
