The comment period has been extended for possible changes to the FCC’s broadcast indecency policies.
Comments to GN Docket 13-86 are now due June 19 and replies on July 18.
NAB had asked for more time to “respond fully to the complex policy, legal and constitutional questions raised in this proceeding.” The broadcast lobby cited the need to poll its members to determine how changes in the commission’s indecency policies might affect stations and networks.
When the commission announced earlier in that the year the agency had reduced its indecency complaint backlog by some 70%, the commission also asked for public input on whether it should adopt an “egregious cases” policy, implying it would focus less on fleeting occurrences.
Some 100,000 comments have been filed to-date.
