Insurance Companies Top Spot List

Cars and trucks move up the Media Monitors rankings

What business categories ran the most spots on radio in 2010, or made big jumps in their number of spots?

Insurance providers were well out in front with 4.4 million spots, according to a compilation from Media Monitors, which listed the number of “captures” it recorded in the various categories (thanks, GEICO, Nationwide, Progressive and friends!). Insurance was followed by fast food with 3.5 million, then home centers/hardware stores with 3 million, auto parts/services at 2.5 million and government, unions and associations around 2 million.

“This will certainly be the first place that every radio sales department will want to focus on in 2011,” Media Monitors noted of the top and upcoming categories.

Categories that moved up the rankings significantly compared to 2009 were government/unions/associations; cosmetics/skin car; cars/trucks; and telecom bundled services.

Among categories falling in the rankings were organizational advertising and credit counseling services.
