Intraplex SynchroCast Used to 'Ring' Athens

Harris said its Intraplex SynchroCast Digital Multiplexer is being used by a radio owner to extend the reach of programming in the Greek Isles. Skai Radio Group, which owns four stations in Athens, is using the multiplexers to achieve gains in coverage, Harris said.
The stations are Skai 100.3 FM, Melodia 99.2 FM, Red 96.3 FM and Angel 88.9. The digital multiplexers and timing modules combine voice and data streams on one channel, which the supplier says helps reduce costs; greater coverage areas are allowed through the simulcast with multiple overlapping transmitters on the same frequency. The system relies on GPS satellites and digital timing to adjust delays and lock signals from multiple transmitters.
Athens sits among three mountains. The supplier said the system allows the broadcaster to ring the market with synchronized transmitters as well as signal frequency boosters for dead or shadowed zones.
