Nine states in the west and upper Midwest will participate in an IPAWS/EAS regional test in June. Now a series of webinars has been scheduled in preparation for that by the IPAWS Program Office of the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
The webinars are to prep for the June 9 event in California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Wyoming and Washington state. Other recent regional tests have been preceded by similar webinars.
The first will be a non-technical informational conference call. This webinar is Thursday, May 12, at 1 p.m. Pacific/4 p.m. Eastern; it is targeted to broadcast managers, program directors, system operators/managers and emergency management personnel.
FEMA said that this type of informational call has proven to be a good opportunity to initiate or renew local conversations about alerting needs and how broadcast partners can best fill those needs.
It will also conduct two technical webinars for engineers and technicians. These webinars will occur on Tuesday, May 24, and Thursday, June 2, in both cases at 1 p.m. Pacific/4 p.m. Eastern.
