Apple says more carmakers will support its iPod as an option starting with 2006 models. They are Audi, Volkswagen, Honda and Honda’s Acura luxury division.
The iPod is connected to the radio behind the dash and a cable is run from that to a connection for the driver in the glovebox or center console. Apple says 15 automakers support iPod kits. With the additional companies, it estimates more than 5 million cars with the iPod feature will be on the road next year.
Reuters reported that analysts disagree on whether the trend could negatively affect satellite, which tend to have the same buyers as the high-end autos offering the iPod feature. XM told the news service the offerings are different and Sirius had no comment.
