IRN, Sky News Strike National News Agreement

The three-year agreement effectively makes Sky News Radio the sole supplier of national news to commercial radio in the U.K.

IRN has signed a three-year agreement with Sky News Radio to provide its 267 client stations with national news programming.

The agreement effectively makes Sky News Radio became the sole supplier of national news to all 300-plus commercial radio stations in the United Kingdom, reaching an aggregate audience of roughly 31 million listeners.

IRN client stations began receiving Sky News feeds at the beginning of March.

Sky News Radio launched in June 1999. The service it currently provides — and which the new stations will also operate under — is a mixture of a live radio bulletin service delivered direct from the Sky News Centre, recorded packages that stations can include in their own bulletins or a “rip and read” service of scripts and audio.

Current stations supplied by Sky News Radio include talkSPORT, Absolute Radio and LBC 97.3. New stations include national station Classic FM; Capital Radio in London; Radio City 96.7 in Liverpool, England; Metro Radio in Newcastle, England; 96.3 Radio Aire in Leeds, England; Key 103 in Manchester, England; Red Dragon in Cardiff, Wales; Radio Forth in Edinburgh, Scotland; Radio Clyde in Glasgow, Scotland; and Downtown in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
