IRT Announces BMF 2.0

Open metadata standard to debut at NAB

The technology research institute Institut für Rundfunktechnik, IRT, in Germany has announced the development of version 2.0 of the Broadcast Metadata exchange Format.

The BMF is something of an open format covering metadata exchange between hardware and software elements, and is applicable for TV, radio and Internet use. The latest iteration increases “user friendliness. More information and a download can be found here.

BMF works with XML in the exchange in the transmission of information. It can be used for electronic program guides, source information or media library descriptions. BMF is free to hardware and software developers.

German national public TV and radio broadcaster ARD and public TV broadcaster ZDF have been involved in the development of BMF. BMG 2.0 can be seen at the IBM booth, N5223, at the NAB Show.
