ISS Highlights Emergency Alert Radio

Forest fires at Los Alamos put short-range radio and sign messaging to the test

Traveler’s information equipment supplier Information Station Specialists has placed an interesting case study on its Web page The Source.

The report looks at the use of a pair of ISS’ Alert AM LED advisory sign/AM short-range transmitter emergency information units at Los Alamos, N.M. during the recent large-scale forest fires.

Using the 1610 kHz system, Los Alamos County Emergency Manager Phil Taylor was able to update residents and travelers of conditions and provide timely evacuation warnings.

The study also includes deployment considerations and methods Taylor used to promote awareness of the service.
