Joe Brings Christmas to Antwerp

Sets up studio in city center and adds temporary thematic DAB+ channel

ANTWERP, Belgium — On Dec. 14, Joe opened its “Joe Christmas House” in Antwerp. Located at the Grote Markt (Town Square), the commercial radio station set up a temporary studio, broadcasting live between 12 and 11 p.m.

Joe’s evening drive time hosts Raf Van Brussel and Rani De Coninck officially opened the event in the presence of Antwerp’s mayor Bart De Wever. Joe also organized a live concert with Regi and Milo Meskens.

For the on-air studio, Medialaan opted for a fiber-link connection between Joe’s main studio in Vilvoorde and the Antwerp Grote Markt.

“We established an extension of our main network with an extra location. This allows us to integrate the Joe Christmas House into the Medialaan on-air studio,” explained Iann Castelein, Medialaan radio project engineer.

“All of the content is provided by the main server in Vilvoorde and we only take a few systems, such as the Dalet playout and Dalet Plus solutions for the newsroom along. The core element in the Christmas studio is a Studer 3000 console — all local connections are managed via LiveWire.” Joe provided a team in the main studio with a detailed script of the broadcasts as backup for the on-site broadcasts.

With “Joe Christmas,” Joe launched a temporary thematic DAB+ channel broadcasting Christmas classics and new holiday hits around-the-clock.

On Dec. 21, the station will stage its first Joe Christmas Ball on Antwerp’s Theatre Square with top Flemish artists, Niels Destadsbader and Clouseau.
